About Simmons Financial Planning – The New School of FinanceTM
1. What is Fee-only or fee-for-service financial planning?
The only way to get unbiased financial advice. Financial institutions make money from the products they offer you like insurance, mutual funds, or credit. When you sit down with an advisor who is selling these products, it’s impossible to get 100% unbiased financial advice.
Fee-only or fee-for service financial planners only get paid for their time and do not make money off of you from products. This is NOT THE SAME as fee-based advisors.
2. Why should I pay to see you when there is so much info on the interwebs?
Googling doesn’t always help to provide the right financial solution. It’s kind of like self-diagnosing on WebMd – it can make things look worse or better than they are. Also, you may get bad advice. Most financial bloggers and journalists are NOT Certified Financial Planners and likely don’t see clients at all. Lastly, there isn’t a one-size-fits all solution for finances. You need someone to take a look at your entire situation and come up with a unique strategy that works specifically for you.
About Booking Meetings
1. I want two services (like Investment and Financial Planning) do I have to make two separate appointments?
Nope! Just let me know when you are booking and we will work something out for a discounted rate so you don’t need to pay the full price for two separate meetings.
2. Can I reschedule my previously booked meeting?
Yes, but please do before 48 hours before our meeting so you don’t lose your deposit. Have a look at the online calendar again and write us an email to let me know what new dates (that is available) works for you. Don’t book online again or it will charge you another $40 – please email email@example.com with new time/date.
3. Do you work evenings? I work 9 – 5.
Yes. Every Tuesday and Wednesday I hold an evening slot. However, these book out quickly so you may have to wait several weeks for an appointment. If you’re able to take an hour or so off work for lunch to make a day-time appointment, you will likely be able to get in much sooner. You can just say you have a doctor’s appointment. : )
4. Nothing on your calendar works with my schedule.
Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will figure it out. But… please try to find something that possibly could work. I can’t guarantee that I can accommodate!
5. What is your cancellation policy?
48 hours notice for cancellation is required to avoid $40 late cancellation fee (your deposit).
About Financial Meetings
1. How long are meetings?
Typically 60 – 90 minutes in person/skype
2. What are the customized notes?
I take detailed notes the entire time of our session so you don’t have to. If you’d like to purchase this option, after our meeting, I will send you a customized budgeting tool and a detailed summary of your plan, recommendations and a TO DO list of action items to move you forward! If you want to take your own notes, you can! Don’t worry, I’m very specific when I’m laying out an ACTION ITEM for you to write down.
3. What do I need to prepare?
This will depend on the type of meeting. Typically, you will need to fill out documentation that I will provide and return those documents to me before our meeting for analysis. If I require additional information (depending on the type of meeting) I will let you know well in advance.
To bring: A notebook and pen – unless you wish to purchase customized notes and action plan.
